With the recent proposals that have now been scrapped it’s clear the council want to and have the funding to improve the promenade park. I believe many people within the district have been wanting the swimming lake to be reintroduced for a long time. I personally am not old enough to have remembered it however my parents do recall many fond memories down at the lake. Also with the temperatures consistently rising each year i believe having somewhere free for the public to be able to cool off will not only benefit the local area by drawing in more tourism and bringing more money to local businesses but also help to reduce the risk to our community from heat related illnesses ultimately taking strain off of our already stretched health services. The swimming lake will also improve mental health within the district by acting as a social area for people to gather and socialise helping to reduce stress and anxiety. Other bodies off water within the district that the public do use for recreational purposes such as paddle boarding are dirty due to lack of maintenance and would not have the same scope as the swimming lake when it comes to the social aspect mentioned above.
